Welcome to the Gwent Leisure Centre League website.

We are a group of 9 running clubs in the old county of Gwent that take it in turns to put on five closed road races of about 5 miles on Tuesday evenings in the Summer months, and five weekend cross-country races in Autumn and Winter.:
Islwyn RC, Lliswerry Runners, Chepstow Harriers, Griffithstown Harriers, Spirit of Monmouth RC, Parc Bryn Bach RC, Pont-y-Pwl & District Runners,  Fairwater Runners Cwmbran and Caerleon RC.

How the league works:
Points are awarded to every runner according to their finishing order (men and women separately), and league tables are published showing the positions of clubs and of individuals in 5 year age categories over each season. The Cross Country and Road series are competitions in their own right but there is also a 'combined' competition with all 10 races included.

Runners compete for their club in the team results and as an individual within their age category.

At the end of each season trophies are awarded to the leading clubs and individuals.

Registration/Entry
This is a closed event for club members of each of the 9 clubs in the group.
It is the responsibility of each runner to ensure they wear a  a number & chip at each event. Go to the registration/entry page to order one.

A brief history

The Gwent Leisure Centre League was founded in 1986 when Fairwater Road Runners, Griffithstown Harriers, Lliswerry Runners and Risca Road Runners got together and set up a series of road races.

The league took its name from the fact that the four founding clubs all used local leisure centres as their base.

The first event was a road race held on Saturday 19th July at Lliswerry Leisure Centre.

After a couple of years cross country races were added in the winter months.

The ethos of the league has always been to provide all its members, irrespective of ability, with free races they could take part in, within a competitive but friendly environment.

Over time the number of clubs competing in the league has steadily increased with, Blaenafon Joggers, Abertillery A.C., Chepstow Harriers, Club 69, Islwyn R.C., becoming members in the early years and Caerleon R.C., Pont-y-pwl & District Runners and Spirit of Monmouth R.C. joining in more recent years.

A few of these clubs have disbanded, merged or changed name over the years.
